I've gotten perms once a month since I was 8 (and I'm 16 now) and every time I go to the salon they style it funny or the type of products they use leave my hair...less than fabulous. I usually end up washing it as little as, well, right when I get home! When you go to the salon, all you're getting when you get a perm is the chemicals in your hair. They put the perm on, and wash it out, then *shampoo and condition* your hair. They do it DIRECTLY after they put the perm in, so technically, you can rewash your hair whenever you want, as long as the perm has worked it's magic. Besides, if they put too much oil on your hair (as mine often do), the best thing to do is to just wash it out, especially because too much oil is NEVER a good thing.


Bottom line, when you go to the salon, you pay for the chemical, the wash, shampoo, and style, even though all you really NEED is the chemical. Actually, I've been known, more than once, to just have them wash the perm out of my hair and I'll go home and do the rest myself if I'm in a hurry.

Depends if it was lye or no lye. But i would say about 48 hours.
