I'm getting real dog shampoo Friday. Can you bath a puppy in your own shampoo?
Yes, you can. Many of the pet owners here will tell you not to, but many show dogs are bathed in human shampoo and conditioner on a regular basis. There will not be one show breeder or professional handler who will tell you that you NEED a shampoo that says DOG on it.
The big mistake that people make at home, regardless of shampoo type, is to not rinse thoroughly enough. Once you think the dog is totally rinsed, rinse him again,
My mom's been breeding and showing English Setters for over 40 years and none of those dogs have ever been bathed with dog shampoo. Always human. Hasn't hurt them in the least, or their Championships.
My dog has never been bathed with dog shampoo either. That's her in my avatar--yeah, that glossy, thick coat is just ruined, huh? ;) The first thing people remark on is how glossy and thick her coat is and how soft she is to pet. People can't keep their hands off her!
Dog shampoo is 99% marketing, Look at the ingredients--they're almost exactly the same. But they cost 4 times as much as human shampoo. Marketing.
ETA: Of course a groomer will promote their own products. If you want to pay 4x the cost of human shampoo because it says DOG on it, be my guest. Lots of people will and do. But it's wholly unnecessary.
If your dog eats a good food and is not bathed excessively, regular old human shampoo is fine. Just be sure you rinse thoroughly. Can you bath a puppy in your own shampoo?
Bubble bath can be used as dog shampoo if you don't have any. I use the avon bubble bath when i run out.
How old is the puppy? Anything under 8 weeks should be bathed in either puppy shampoo or human baby shampoo, like Johnson's. After 8 weeks, you can try human shampoo, but the puppy may possibly be allerigc...you never know.
wait till friday. puppies dont need to be bathed often, it will dry the skin out and using your shampoo will do it worse because the Ph balance is too high for the puppy.
no
Human shampoo has detergent in and that can irritate the dogs skin
Rather than a human shampoo which has the wrong PH and will dry your dog's skin and hair, use Murphy's Original [liquid] Oil Soap. It's entirely vegetable-based, and it works wonderfully.
Or you could wait until payday and buy her real dog shampoo.
yes, My dog has dandruff and every alternate shampoo I give him is with head and shoulders.... he is 7 yrs old now. happy n healthy boy
No you shouldn't since it is formulated for human ph not dogs %26amp; puppy skin is even more sensitive. Only use puppy or hypo shampoo on puppies. Even human baby shampoo is too strong %26amp; not tear less to pets.
FYI - show ppl will use any product that makes their dog look good for the ring right that moment - not for long term use. Most of the products used for the ring are not used again in daily real life once career is finished.
It depends on the breed of your dog. Some dogs have sensitive skin like humans. i.e Dalmatians have sensitive skin so you wash them with wool mix or something that wont irritate them in any way.
no that is very dangerous you can buy dog shampoo at pet stores and other places but we have chemicals in our and if you get it in their eyes it will burn their eyes and if you do that they will start freaking out
No, I would not shampoo my puppy in humane shampoo it has chemicals in there that might harm them in different ways. They make specialized Dog shampoos you can get them at Wal-Mart, Kmart, Pets mart, Petco and even the dollar store! Lol However I do you the Mane 鈥榥 Tail hoof maker conditioner that I use for my hair on my puppy to condition him. I saw that at the store in the pet aisle they had the same kind so it is human and pet friendly. Well I hope I helped!
Sure..just make sure that it's not too acidic and also alcohol-free...
I don't see why not.
