Normal product use won't cause a problem. If you have a lot of buildup you should wash and completely dry your hair before coloring. They do not want you putting the color on wet hair as you dilute the product by doing so.





Different products require different methods as you can see above. I believe you can use the color on wet hair but not shampoo because the ingredients in the shampoo will hinder or dilute the color process.





For the most part, one or two days worth of product can simply be brushed out before applying the color. But if you use many products, then reapply before washing for several days, you should go ahead and wash it. Just make sure it is dry before applying the color.

However, it differs for each person due to different hair conditions and may be fine for you to shampoo your hair before colouring.

you aren't supposed to, for the main reason that the dye will not open the pores in your hair as well as unwashed (unshampoo'd) hair does. shampoo gives a coating on hair which will weaken any deposits that will to cling to your hair. the same goes for conditioning before a colouring. so shampoo after you've washed most of the dye out. condition five minutes afterwards and then leave on for a few minutes. then wash.

why not just follow the directions? would that not be easier then worrying about the outcome if you dont? But i'm sure nothing disasterous would happen, the color might not take as nice tho because of the chemicals in the shampoo.
Absolutely nothing. Everytime I've dyed someone's hair they washed almost right before and the color still turns out nice.
It doesn't really matter, just with dirtier hair they say the dye holds better, although I always wash my hair the say i get it died!
Nothing. They say that clean hair doesn't hold onto Color better..not true..I wash my hair before and after the color, and it looks just as good.
The color doesn't stick to freshly washed hair.
umm...let me think......lik....NOTHING. i wash my hair with shampoo and then conditioner...oh, wait ur askin...ok. then just wet ur hair and dont use shampoo. just follow the instructions!
